Chemical-Free Drain Cleaning in Germantown, MD

So you’ve just finished a tasty dinner meal, the kids are settled down and doing their homework, and now you’re ready to sit back, relax, and spend a little quality time with your favorite sitcom or today’s crossword puzzle.

Oops, not so fast.  Because one thing you didn’t count on – and the last thing you wanted – was a clogged kitchen sink drain.  Plans foiled, fast action needed, and hopefully without the need to call a plumber for a further disruption to your much-anticipated evening solace.

Now for the good news.  Correcting the problem might just be a lot simpler and faster than you think, and certainly worth a try with one or more these natural, chemical free drain cleaning methods.

  1. Vinegar & baking soda.  Pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, and follow that up immediately with a cup of white vinegar.  Let that sit for about five minutes, and then pour a tea kettle (or approximate amount) of boiling water down the drain.  It might take up to 3 applications to do the job, but for simple clogs, once should be enough.md
  2.  Baking soda & salt.  This solution has a little more kick to it than vinegar and backing soda, so if you suspect grease is at the root of the blockage, start by pouring one cup of baking soda and half a cup of salt down the drain.  This concoction needs some time to work its magic, so if you’re in no particular rush, let it sit overnight, and then pour at least two cups of boiling water down the drain.
  3.  Use a plunger.  If the clog is in your kitchen drain and you have a double sink, cover the drain you’re not plunging to prevent water and the clogging materials from splattering the area around you.  Then, make sure the plunger is flat to the sink to create a vacuum, and then start plunging the drain vigorously.  You won’t know if the job is done until you remove the plunger to let the sink drain.  If it works, it never hurts to finish the job with hot or boiling water to clear out any remaining debris.
  4.  Organic drain cleaning liquids.  Chemical drain cleaners, while often effective, can corrode the inside of your pipes and cause a mini eco-disaster.  Instead, contact Your 1 Plumber for a supply of Bio-Clean.  It’s organic environmentally friendly, and outperforms even the strongest of chemical drain cleaning products.  A periodic dose of Bio-Clean is a great way to keep your drains nice and clean to you can enjoy one pleasant evening after another.
