Much like a well-stocked emergency kit, a well-stocked home will help ensure that you’re ready for whatever maintenance tasks and surprises come your way. So do yourself a favor and stock your home with the following 9 items so you’ll be ready to face a wide variety of challenges with significantly greater ease.
- A Fire Extinguisher – Every home should have a fire extinguisher, and preferably in or near the kitchen. There are numerous types to choose from so do a little homework to make sure you get the right one for your home.
- A Heavy-Duty Extension Cord – Not all extension cords are created equal. Only use outdoor approved extension cords for any outdoor purpose.
- A Well-Stocked Tool Kit – Invest in some basic tools like a drill, screwdriver, hammer, level, tape measure, wrench, pliers, staple gun, utility knife, etc., and make sure you have something durable to store them in.
- Emergency Preparedness Kit – Keep a fully stocked emergency kit for every member of your family, including pets. Some items to include are cash, non-perishable food, bottled water, medications, a flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, matches, and warm blankets.
- Ladders – Before investing in a ladder (or two), consider how high you’ll need to go and where you’re most likely to use it. A small ladder is great for painting crown molding, whereas an extension ladder is ideal for a vaulted ceilings and two-story foyers.
- A Wet-Dry Vacuum – From cleaning the car to sucking up spills, a wet-dry vac is an awesome tool to have on hand.
- A Set of Paintbrushes – While you may not plan on painting and entire room, there will probably come a time where you’ll at least need to touch up a wall or piece of furniture.
- WD-40 – Just one of those items no homeowner should be without.
- Duct Tape – Another one of those essentials that always seems to come in handy.
