How to Clean Your Stainless Steel Appliances in Philomont & Loudon County, VA

If you’ve just purchased new stainless steel kitchen appliances, you’re probably still admiring them and how well they outshine their predecessors.
You know, the basic honeymoon phase of the relationship. But no honeymoon lasts forever, and that certainly applies to your new appliances.
What changes? Before long, you’re going to notice fingerprints, no matter how thoroughly you instruct and remind family members on how to avoid leaving those little (some not so little) telltale signs. And then all of a sudden it hits you: you’ve never owned stainless steel before, and it never occurred to you to ask how best to clean them.
So let’s get started, shall we?
- First, it’s important to remember that however “stainless” stainless steel might be, it’s not “scratch-less”. So only clean your appliances using paper towel, some kind of cotton cloth, or a microfiber cloth as your cleaning instrument.
- The same goes for the cleaning liquid: don’t use anything with harsh chemicals or abrasives. Good Housekeeping magazine recommends using 1 teaspoon of detergent with one quart of warm to hot tap water. For your own protection,
- please wear rubber gloves while concocting this mixture.
- Once it’s all mixed, start cleaning each appliance, one small section at a time.
- Clean with the grain, not against it.
- Once you’re done cleaning, use detergent-free warm water with your cloth or paper towels to rinse off the soapy solution.
- Dry the appliances immediately after you’re done rinsing with a clean cloth and paper towel.
Rubbing mineral oil on the appliances with a similar type cloth is a great way to get rid of streaks. Or, if you’re inclined to use an actual stainless steel cleaner, once again we recommend the number one choice of Good Housekeeping: Homax Stainless Steel Magic Aerosol.
