How to Remove Soap Scum from Your Shower in Germantown and Jessup, MD

We know what you’re thinking: why should soap scum be difficult to get rid of, right? After all, it is what it is: soap! And if it’s easy to wash soap off our hands or out of our hair, what’s the big deal about removing it from the shower doors or tub?
Here’s the thing: soap doesn’t become soap scum until it sits there for a while. Clean up immediately after you use the tub or shower and it’s gone. But let it sit and age a little, and suddenly it becomes a mixture of mildew, mineral deposits from your water, soap, body oils, and chemicals from your shampoos and conditioners. THEN you have a cleaning problem on your hands.
But fear not, as there are several tried and true methods for removing soap scum. And the first one of these is prevention: as in, stop using bar soap and switch to liquid formulas. That alone won’t keep the scum away, but cleaning the tub and shower after every use will. Still, most of us simply don’t have that kind of time or patience.
So when it’s time for a thorough cleaning, there are several techniques for cleaning. Here are the two most effective, from our experience. Start with an acidic cleaning agent like vinegar or baking soda. But stay away from abrasive products and brushes as they can dull or tarnish fiberglass, metal or porcelain surfaces.
With baking soda, first pour a generous amount on a soft, white cloth, then moisten it and let the scrubbing begin. Use the same formula with vinegar, minus the moistening part. And for the really stubborn stains? Make a paste of vinegar and baking soda combined. The two have twice the cleaning power of either one used alone.
