Creative Ideas for Redecorating Your Home
By Wilmer Romero on Jan 12, 2017 in Home & Lifestyle
Once the holidays are behind us, most peoples’ thoughts leap ahead to spring. And with spring comes renewal in any number of forms, including updating the look and feel of your house. If that bug has bitten you but you have yet to feel the spark of creativity, allow us to suggest a few out-of-the ordinary crowd pleasers:
Wood
Used pallets can be broken apart and used as a wall treatment. Stain them three or four different shades and then mix and match them on the wall. This would be useful on a small accent wall, in a bathroom, or as a faux headboard in a bedroom.
Brick
Thin sheets of brick are available to help create the look and feel of real brick! It’s much easier than calling in a mason, but gives you all the same warmth and coziness. You can also vary colors from whitewashed to pink, orange, green, blue, or brown.
Tile
Most people think of tile for floors, or maybe as a kitchen backsplash. But what about tiling a wall to accent a fireplace, entry way, or vanity space in a bedroom? Tile can be mounted and adhered with grout or adhesive backing, and yet, to ensure a finished look you can live with happily for a good long time, you might want to hire a professional installer.
Decals
If there’s a room in your home that just needs a little more pizzazz, maybe a self-adhesive wall decal is the way to go. These come in every shape, size, and pattern. You can add florals, inspiring words, a child’s name or the family name, or even a chalkboard decal in your pantry or entry way. Want to change them later? Just peel them off and replace or move them around!
Cork
Usually cork panels are a floor covering, but by applying them to a wall you have a great space with texture and visual interest. Not only that, but a place to stick notes, artwork, and pictures!
Wallpaper
Wallpaper isn’t just about those long stick rolls of floral patterns from the 70’s! You can make your own wallpaper with old newspaper, enlarged family photos, or even scraps of fabric. They can be affixed with painter’s tape, which is easily removable, or with white glue and water.
And then there’s your kitchen or bathroom. Have plans to update the look and functionality of them, as well?
