“What’s Wrong with My Water Heater?”

“What’s Wrong with My Water Heater?”
More people replace their water heaters during the winter months than any other time of the year. We can’t completely explain why, but it’s true with our company and other plumbing companies around the US we associate with.
Whatever the reason for this phenomenon, the impetus to replace a water heater usually starts once a problem or perceived problem is detected. What sorts of problems? Let’s have a look:
Not Enough Hot Water
If you find yourself running low on hot water during normal usage, it’s a sign that your water heater isn’t producing up to its original potential. That may not indicate the need to replace it, but you should have the problem diagnosed so you can make the right decision for your family’s hot water needs going forward.
Puddles on the Floor
If you find water near the base of your unit, the tank is probably leaking. The usual cause is internal rust and corrosion which, in turn, can be caused by poor water quality or a failed anode rod. Either way, it’s not going to get better on its own.
“Turn Down the Volume!”
Your water heater, like other home comfort systems, is meant to be felt and not heard. But when internal tank sediment reaches an elevated level, your system can start sounding off with banging, creaking, knocking, or whining noises. If replacing the heating element doesn’t fix the problem, it’s probably time for a new system.
No Hot Water (Electric Water Heater)
If the red reset button keeps popping out, it probably means the water is too hot. That indicates a busted thermostat which you’ll need a qualified plumber to fix or replace.
No Hot Water (Gas Water Heater)
Most likely, the pilot light has gone out. If you have trouble relighting it or keeping it lit, the thermocouple probably needs to be replaced.
