Signs You Are Dealing With Sewer Line Issues

Plumbing issues can arise anytime. Most often, they need to be addressed immediately; especially when it concerns sewer pipes…

If your sewer pipes are made of cast iron and are 25 years or older, they may fail any time. It’s better to keep track of warning signs, and call our plumbers in Frederick to repair the damage.

Repairing a sewer line costs less if the damage is identified and addressed earlier. So keep an eye out for these signs:

Sewer blockages

A blockage anywhere in the line may cause a sewage backup. If the water backup emerges every time you run water down the sink, the bathtub or when you flush, then the problem is likely in the main sewer line.

If you’re regularly facing backups – even after having the pipes cleaned – then there must be an underlying issue which will have to be checked via a video inspection.

Sewer gas odor

One of the tell-tale sign that your house’s sewer line is damaged is a sewer gas smell in or around your house. Sewers are airtight almost everywhere, except vent stacks. This means that you won’t be able to smell anything like that, unless the sewer line is damaged.

Mold issue

Mold is another very obvious sign of a break in the sewer lines. Some molds can grow in places with a humidity level higher than 55%. Since sewer line damages cause an increase in humidity levels, you’ll likely notice mold growing in your home.

Sewer smell and mold together are all the signs you need to know that your sewer line is damaged. You should immediately call a plumber to fix this for you.

Slow draining

A slow drain can be a sign of blockage. It will eventually lead to sewage backup. Slow draining of your toilet, sink and bathtub indicate an underlying issue. This may be a tree root intrusion, cracks or channeling in the beginning stage.

Extra green grass patches

If there are patches that are extra green or lush, then it may be because of a sewage leak underground. Sewage acts as a fertilizer, hence the leakage passes to the surrounding soil to give your grass extra nutrition.

If you’re experiencing one or more of these signs, give our emergency plumbers a call. We’ll quickly diagnose and fix your sewer line problems.
