Unplugging 5 Common Home Plumbing Myths
By your1 on Jun 21, 2016 in Plumbing
Plumbing issues requires a professional plumber to resolve them; however, there are a number of people who look to resolve issues on their own. This leads to small issues turning into major, expensive ones.
This is primarily because of plumbing myths that people believe to be true.
We present; five common plumbing myths that are commonly believed to be true:
Myth # 1: Use Soap to Clean your Taps and Fixtures
When cleaning plumbing fixtures with soap, you’re actually doing more harm than good. Soap damages certain surfaces of the materials which causes problems. Instead of soap, disinfectants should be used to kill germs and avoid infections. Strong disinfectants are ideal to keep sinks free of germs. Brass plumbing fixtures should be polished using a soft solution which includes soda and lemon.
Myth # 2: Toilet Cistern help keep the Toilet Clean
Using colored bleach tablets helps keep the toilet clean and free of germs? Well, not really.
When in use, they dissolve and create a slow build-up that blocks your cistern. This ruins your toilet cistern and causes problems. When cleaning your toilet tank, you can use bleach, but do not let it sit for more than ten minutes. You can even use vinegar to clean toilet cistern.
Myth # 3: The Tighter you turn the Tap, the Better
Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Turning the tap tighter is not the solution to prevent dripping. In fact, when you close the tap tightly, the tightness might lead to tap damage which might increase the chances of tap leakage. Thus, when you notice your faucet’s dripping, get a plumber.
Myth # 4: Plumbing Maintenance is of no use
As they say, prevention is better than cure. Routine maintenance is essential and requires you to make sure that you take steps that’ll help you get rid of all plumbing problems. Inspect and maintain your sinks as soon as you find any sign of leakage or any other damage.
Myth # 5: All Plumbers are the Same
The deadliest myths of all. Not all plumbers are same. There are some that are better than the rest in terms of service, rates, experience and most importantly license. Plumbing companies that are licensed offer better plumbing services as compared to unlicensed companies. Licensed companies employ some of the best professionals who offer exceptional services.
