Fun Facts About the Household Toilet.

1. The first flushing toilet was invented by Queen Elizabeth’s I godson, Sir John Harrington. Rumor has it that is why we refer to a toilet as the “John”.

2. Thomas Crapper perfected the siphon flush system we use today.

3. Believe it or not, the toilet seat is one of the cleanest parts of your home. A typical cutting board and dish sponge harbor far more bacteria than a toilet seat.

4. King George II of Great Britain died of a stroke while on the toilet in 1760.

5. The average person spends about 3 years of his or her life on the toilet.

6. The Scott Paper Company was the first to make toilet paper in roll form in 1890.

7. Three out of four people put their toilet paper on the holder with a flap facing out.

8. Putting the toilet lid down before flushing it helps reduce the amount of germs and bacteria that can become airborne.

9. It is estimated that over 2.6 billion people do not have access to clean toilet facilities.

10. Created in 2001 and celebrated on November 19, World Toilet Day aims to bring attention to the billions of people worldwide who lack access to sanitation.
