Home Decorating Tips for Somerville and Cambridge

Springtime inspires is to pull back the curtains, fling open the windows, and let the cool breezes and sunshine flood our homes. But sometimes, the added spotlight on your indoors makes you less than thrilled with what you see. Maybe it’s that blank wall you can’t decide what to do with, or that worn furniture you don’t quite have the budget to replace at the moment.
Well, what better time than spring to give your home a little indoor facelift, which any home owner can do on any budget.
For example, you can take a room from drab to fab with these color tips and tricks:
- Add visual interest in a bedroom or office with an accent wall.
- If you prefer muted tones, add a little definition by painting trim a crisp white.
- Bring attention to built-ins by painting the inside complimentary or contrasting shade.
- For something a little less permanent, add a pop of color into any room with bright linens, artwork, and accessories.
- Bring the outdoors in by placing a fresh bouquet of springtime blooms in every room.
Now let’s introduce some texture to stir things up even more:
- Add interest and definition by highlighting the natural woodwork in your home, or add your own with decorative trim, wainscot, and beadboard.
- Mix and match decorative pillow and window coverings in complimentary designs and patterns.
- Add a sisal rug or a natural fiber rug with a fun geometric pattern to add a little flare to your floor.
- Believe it or not, wallpaper is making a comeback. Choose a textured wallpaper to add dimension to a powder room, entryway, or feature wall.
- Don’t forget the “fifth wall” – your ceiling. Add character into an otherwise boring room with crown or dentil molding, or a coffered ceiling. For a beachy, cottage-inspired space, consider adding beadboard to the ceiling.
