Fall Craft Ideas for Family Fun & Creativity

So, you’re kids have begged you to take them to every agricultural fair, apple harvest, corn maze, and pumpkin patch within a 60 mile radius this fall – you’ve granted every such request, and yet they still crave more. The problem is, they’re back in school now, and there just isn’t time to take in every fall harvest and nature trail on the horizon.
Of course, there are other ways to occupy your family’s collective time off, especially as the days grow shorter and colder. And it all starts by gathering the kids around a real or makeshift craft table where you can bring the colors of the season indoors with some easy and fun crafts that are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Acorn Treats – Okay, so this one isn’t really a “craft”, but everyone needs a little treat once in a while. Simply use a dot of icing to attach a Hershey’s Kiss to the flat side of a mini vanilla wafer. Then attach a small peanut butter or butterscotch baking chip on the other side. Let set and enjoy!
Family Handprint Art – This is a favorite fall craft that can easily be modified for any season. Simply draw or paint the trunk of a tree on cardstock or heavy weight paper, place the palms of your hands onto a disposable plate full of fall-colored and kid-friendly paint, then gently place your hand onto the card stock to make “leaves” with your handprints.
Fall Tote Bags – With a few freshly fallen leaves and a little fabric paint, you can make your very own tote bags. Paint the back of a leaf (careful not to use too much paint), place the leaf paint side down on the tote bag, and press down with wax paper, carefully flattening the leaf out. Remove to reveal the leaf print, and allow it time to dry. They’re great for groceries, library books, or even for Trick or Treating.
Apple Banner – Apples are synonymous with fall and can be used to create a fun banner that you can hang over your fireplace mantle or window. Use burlap or any sturdy fabric you have on hand, add a dollop of paint onto a paper plate, and slice an apple in half to use it like a stamp. Use a marker to add some finishing touches like a stem or seeds, and you have yourself a festive fall banner.
Scavenger Wreath – Take a family nature walk and have everyone collect fallen leaves, pine cones, seed pods, twigs, berries and anything else that sparks their creativity. Cut a wreath shape out of card stock or other heavy-weight paper, and then glue all your treasures onto the wreath.
