How to Get Rid of Toilet Bowl Scratches in Buckeystown & Frederick County
By Wilmer Romero on Jan 20, 2015 in Plumbing
Are you really ready to scrap a perfectly good toilet simply because of a few unsightly scratches inside the bowl?
Chances are that if you’re reading this blog in the first place, the answer is “no,” and that you’re looking for a good way to repair the scratches and make your toilet like new again, or as close to new as possible.
Well, here at Your 1 Plumber, we have just the solution you’ve been looking for. So let’s get started, shall we?
- Clean the inside of your toilet the way you normally would, provided your method works and isn’t contributing or adding to the scratches. You see, over time, the coating initially applied to the ceramic surface begins to wear away, making scratches more likely.
- Turn your toilet’s water supply valve to the full off position.
- Flush the toilet to drain it of all remaining water.
- Thoroughly dry all scratched areas using either a cloth or paper towel.
- Once you’ve purchased it from your local hardware store or home center, mix a two-part epoxy or repair paste until it forms into a smooth, creamy texture.
- Next, use the plastic applicator that comes with the kit, a toothpick, or something similar to apply the mixture over the scratches until you have completely filled them in.
- Then, take a moist but not overly wet rag to remove any excess paste.
- Allow the mixture to dry for about 2-3 hours before re-filling the bowl.
And what’s the end result? A project you tackled on your own, in very little time, and with very little effort, and yet (hopefully) with a completely satisfactory result.
