5 Things You Never Knew About Plumbing in Savage and Howard County

EinsteinWith the clock rapidly counting down to Thanksgiving, and holiday shopping already in full swing, we thought you might appreciate something to smile about.

Because, let’s face it, in our business – plumbing, to be exact – there’s plenty to smile about, even if it doesn’t always seem funny in the moment. No need to go any further with that one.

Anyway, here 5 absolutely strange but true plumbing facts that we hope you find both interesting and amusing.

  1. In 1954, Albert Einstein sent a mild tremor through the scientific community when he made the following statement: “If I would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living, I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher. I would rather choose to be a plumber in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances.”       In response, the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union made him an honorary member.
  2. In Japan, they now have urinals with voice-activated flushing mechanisms that respond to such commands a “fire” in 30 different languages.
  3. When you have nothing better to do, why not fund a research project to determine whether most people position a roll of toilet paper so the flap is in front or back. Wait a second, someone beat you to it. In fact, over $100,000 was spent to determine that 75% of us prefer the flap in front.
  4. Question: at what time of the year are more toilets flushed than any other?       Here’s a hint: if you’re a sports fan, you should have a leg up on this one. Give up?       Answer: during half time of the Super Bowl. And it might just have something to do with the 1 billion chicken wings and 28 million pounds of potato chips consumed during the first half.
  5. If you had it to do all over again, would you come up with a different name for the “bathroom” and, if so, what might that be? Well, here’s some inspiration from the ancients. Early Egyptians called it the House of Horrors, while the more practical Romans conducted their business in the Necessarium.

And then there’s not-so-funny side of plumbing, like when something goes wrong with yours. Whether that time is now or any time at all, we invite you to contact Your 1 Plumber for fast response, and high quality results.
