When You Need a Sewer Ejector Pump in Philomont & Loudon County, VA

So, you’ve just moved into a new home – not brand new, but new to you – and the very first time you run the washing machine, the water either doesn’t drain at all, or drains very, very slowly. To the point of distraction.
That’s exactly the sort of thing that is not very likely to be picked up during a routine home inspection, but it can be a real pain, nonetheless. Same goes for a slow draining sink, toilet or shower.
Well, before you declare that washing machine (or anything else not working to your complete satisfaction) “history,” you first want to determine if the problem is isolated in a single area or more widespread. And then see if you can determine if the water source is below grade level. Because if that’s the case, the solution might be as simple as repairing your home’s sewer ejector pump or having one installed if none already exists.
Sewer ejector pumps are designed for use where the water that needs to be drained is below grade level, such as in your basement. Most water, you see, empties downhill by gravity into your sewer or septic tank. Water that’s below grade needs to move uphill, and it can’t do that by itself.
What exactly is a sewer ejector pump? It consists of a buried tank made from some type of corrosion resistant material, very often fiberglass or polyethylene. They also come with a watertight lid and an electric pump and motor that is activated when the incoming water rises to a pre-determined level. Then the water is forced through a discharge pipe to your septic tank or sewer.
If your home is connected to a municipal water supply, your sewer ejector pump should also have a check valve to prevent raw sewage from backing up into unit’s tank.
At Your 1 Plumber, we service and repair all makes and models of sewer ejector pumps. Not sure if you already have or need one? Then give us a call and we’ll be happy to advise you on how to effectively drain water from every source in your home.
