The Problem with a Leaking Refrigerator

If your refrigerator is determined to spring a leak, at least it can do the decent thing and deposit the water in front of itself where you can’t possibly miss it.  Then you can take immediate action and get it fixed before any real damage is done.

But then there’s the sneaky kind – the refrigerators with water or ice dispensers. You see, when they spring a leak, it’s usually not the refrigerator at all, but rather the plastic or copper tube that supplies water and connects to the back of your fridge.  Should something go wrong with that connection, water is going to leak.  But it’s going to leak behind the fridge where it’s harder to find, at least right away.

Before we tell you just how bad things can get, it’s time for a little advice:  pull your fridge away from the wall once a month as part of your regular cleaning routine AND to check for signs of leaking water.  If you see dried up water or just a small amount on the floor, that’s potentially worse than an all-out puddle.  Why?  Because it means that water, instead of puddling, is seeping through your floor into your sub-flooring where it can cause structural damage.  And then you’d have much more than a water leak to content with.

So, what are you going to do if you see evidence of a current or past water leak?  Yes, you can call Your 1 Plumber from a prompt and dependable solution.  But first, we advise you to check all along the water line from your sink to your fridge to see if water is leaking anywhere else, like inside your lower cabinets.

Once we arrive on the scene, we’ll check the whole line for you, figure out exactly where the leak is located, and if there’s more than one.  Then we’ll provide you with our recommended solution, which usually is to repair or replace the water line. It’s a solution, by the way, that will be accompanied by a guaranteed upfront price quote.

Your 1 Plumber:  ready and able to tackle all your home plumbing problems, large and small.

A refrigerator leaking from behind, as troublesome as it can be, is still one of those problems that can be caught in the very early stages when there’s still time to prevent any serious damage from taking place.
